Pune, 5th October 2024: With alarming statistics revealing that a child is sexually abused every 15 minutes in India, the need for preventive education has become more urgent than ever. In response to this pressing issue, an event titled “Break the Silence” was held on October 2 at Revell Orchid Society, Lohegaon. The event aimed to raise awareness about child and women sexual abuse, empowering the community to take a stand against such crimes.

Organized by “Team Ankahee,” a dedicated group of women, and supported by local volunteers, the event drew community members, including children, to participate in workshops, discussions, and interactive activities. Financial support for the event came from team members as well as local sponsors such as RNI Recording Studio, KP Productions, FKC Gym, Ioweb3, and Shubham Furnitures.

The event opened with a powerful street play presented by “Team Ankahee,” depicting common child abuse scenarios. The interactive performance educated children on how to recognize dangerous situations and react appropriately. Children were encouraged to ask questions, making the session highly engaging and informative.

Guest speakers included legal expert Pallavi Shinde, FFCP Muskaan representative Shubhangi Gharbude, and Damini Marshal group members Swati Dorge and Parvin Shaikh from VimanTal Police Station. They shared critical information on child abuse statistics, the POCSO Act, and the importance of communication and vigilance in preventing abuse. They also provided guidance on the resources available for victims and their families.

A self-defense workshop led by instructors from Dai Ichi Martial Arts followed, where attendees learned practical self-defense techniques designed for all skill levels. The session emphasized awareness, empowerment, and practical strategies to ensure personal safety.

The event concluded with attendees taking a pledge to advocate for child protection and spread awareness within their communities. Many participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage in such an important conversation.
