As the vibrant festival of Navratri kicks off, the anticipation for Diwali is palpable across the country. This year, there has been some confusion regarding the exact date of Diwali. Traditionally one of the most significant Hindu festivals, Diwali will be celebrated on October 31, 2024. The main event, Laxmi Puja, will occur after sunset. The festival spans five days, commencing with Dhanteras on October 29 and concluding with Bhai Dooj on November 3.
According to Drik Panchang, Diwali is observed on Amavasya Tithi of the Kartik Month. Although the Amavasya will technically extend into November 1, Laxmi Puja is set for October 31 due to the visibility of the moon after sunset. Many are confused about which date to celebrate, but the ideal day for the festivities is indeed October 31.
Pandit Mudgal clarified that Amavasya begins at 3:12 PM on October 31 and ends at 5:14 PM on November 1. However, as the puja is performed after sunset, October 31 is the day for celebration. This year, Amavasya falls on both October 31 and November 1, adding to the uncertainty among devotees.
