Festive Season Sees 10-20% Hike in Vegetable Prices at Pune’s Market Yard

Pune, 2nd September 2024: The prices of Garlic, Okra, guar, Cabbage, Cauliflower, and Ghevda (Common Bean) have increased by 10 to 20 percent due to a decrease in arrivals. Traders informed that the prices of other fruits and vegetables are stable.

As many as 90 truckloads of fruits and vegetables from the state and outside the state arrived at the wholesale market at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard on Sunday (September 1).

It is reported that eight to ten tempos carrying Green Chillies each from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh; seven to eight tempos Cabbage each from Karnataka, Gujarat; three to four tempos of Ghevda from Karnataka and Gujarat; four to five Tempos of Drumstick from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu; as many as 10 to 12 tempos from Indore region of Madhya Pradesh carrying carrots, three to four tempos of groundnut pods from Gujarat while 10 to 12 tempos of garlic from Madhya Pradesh were imported.

From Pune Division 500 to 600 sacks of Ginger from Satara, seven to eight tempo carrying Okra, five to six tempos of Guar, eight to 10 thousand boxes carrying Tomatoes, Green Chilli in five to six tempo, eight to 10 tempo carrying Bell Peppers.

Vehicles from Purandar, Parner, Wai, and Satara area carrying Peas in seven to eight tempos, eight to 10 tempos of Cucumber, Cabbages in 5 to 6 tempos, Cauliflower in seven to eight tempos, Red Pumpkin in 10 to 12 tempo were reported. Onion in as many as 60 trucks along with also 40 tempo potatoes from Indore, Agra, and local areas.

Due to rain, the degradation of leafy vegetables has increased. As compared to the demand, the arrival of leafy vegetables is decreasing, and the prices of all leafy vegetables are on the rise. Due to the increase in demand, the prices of leafy vegetables such as Coriander, Fenugreek, Dill Leaves (Shepu), Safflower Leaves (Kardai), and Sorrel Leaves (Ambadi) rose marginally.

It is informed by traders that prices of Spring Onion, Indian Radish, Amaranth, White Goosefoot (Chakwat), Mint, Cowpea (Chawli), and Spinach are stable. They further informed that 70 pairs of coriander and 50 thousand pairs of Fenugreek were received in the market on Sunday.

The prices of 100 pairs of leafy vegetables in the wholesale market are reported as follows:
Coriander: Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000, Fenugreek: Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500, Shepu: Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500, Spring Onion: Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000, White Goosefoot (Chakwat): Rs 800 to Rs 1,000, Safflower Leaves (Kardai): Rs 500 to Rs 800, Mint: Rs 500 to Rs 1,000, Sorrel Leaves (Ambadi): Rs 500 to Rs 1,000, Indian Radish: Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,800, Amaranth: Rs 500 to Rs 800, Green Sorrel (Chuka): Rs 500 to Rs 1,000, Cowpea (Chawli): Rs 500 to Rs 800, Spinach: Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,800.

In the fruit market, the prices of Pineapple, Lemon, Pomegranate, Orange, Sweet Lemon (Mosambi), Watermelon, Melon, Sugar-Apple (Sitafal), Papaya, Chiku, Guava are reported to be stable.

In the fruit market on Sunday, pineapple carrying fice trucks, 90 to 100 tons of Sweet Lemon (Mosambi), five to six tons of Orange, 50 to 60 tons carrying Pomegranate, Papaya in eight to 10 tempos, Limes of 1,200 to 1,500 sacks, three to four tempos of Watermelon, Melons in three to four tempos, Chuku in as many as 1,500 boxes, Guava in 500 plastic crates while 25 to 30 tons of Sweet Apples (Sitafal) were received.
