GOAT’s international performance is also noteworthy. In Norway, the film secured the fifth position at the box office, earning ₹65 lakh in just four days, according to social media reports.
The film has also made history in Tamil Nadu, becoming Vijay’s eighth film to cross ₹100 crore (gross) within the opening weekend, marking another career milestone for the Tamil superstar.
Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT is a high-octane espionage thriller with Vijay in dual roles. The film’s soundtrack is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while Siddhartha Nuni and Venkat Raajen handle cinematography and editing, respectively.
The film’s earnings could have been even higher if larger cinema chains such as PVR, INOX, and Cineplex had screened the movie in the northern regions of India. Nevertheless, the absence of significant Tamil-language competition until September 20 is expected to further bolster GOAT’s box office performance.
The Hindi version of GOAT has garnered approximately ₹8.3 crore nett in private theaters, while the Telugu version earned around ₹7.85 crore nett during its opening weekend, further expanding the film’s reach.
Additionally, Thalapathy Vijay’s recent revelation about his political aspirations has surprised fans. He announced plans to step away from acting after entering politics. His political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, will focus on the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and Vijay has decided not to participate in the 2024 general elections.
This strong box office showing, combined with Vijay’s political announcement, continues to make headlines, further boosting the film’s momentum.
