Hiring Phase Resumes in Engineering Colleges, Leading Companies Expected to Drive the Change

IT campus recruitment is projected to increase by 20-25% in this fiscal year.

India’s IT industry is preparing for a notable rise in campus recruitment this fiscal year. A report from Economic Times highlights this trend. This is surely a positive sign for the industry  which recently faced significant lagging in terms of recruitment  and securing the desired profile.

Even with the rise in campus recruitment, experts warn that the IT services sector will persist in prioritizing the hiring of individuals equipped with modern skills to address the changing needs of the market.

The recruitment of new talent is an encouraging development for the IT sector, which had scaled back or halted campus hiring last year due to global economic uncertainties and the need to stabilize their workforces following a period of aggressive hiring during the pandemic.

The total number of hires in 2024 is anticipated to be less than the record levels seen during the pandemic years, influenced by elements such as automation and workforce optimization.

Leading tech firms have been driving this change. Some of the prominent names include Wipro, TCS and others.

“We’re expecting fresher hiring to grow by 20-25% this year compared to FY24. Last year, hiring slowed due to global economic uncertainties, but 2024-25 is showing signs of recovery,” says Krishna Vij, vice president,  TeamLease Digital.

Wipro has been instrumental in the process. Wipro has successfully onboarded 3,000 Next Gen Associates (NGAs) in the first quarter of this fiscal year and aims to recruit an additional 10,000 to 12,000 NGAs over the course of the year.

Analysts predict a 20-25% rise in the recruitment of fresh graduates compared to last fiscal year. Organizations are increasingly focusing on new talent to lessen their dependence on seasoned lateral hires and maintain a competitive edge in the market.

Tech Mahindra aims to recruit approximately 5,000 individuals from engineering colleges this year and is actively involved in the Prime Minister Internship scheme. Meanwhile, TCS has revealed its intention to onboard as many as 40,000 fresh graduates, and Infosys is focusing on bringing in about 20,000 new hires from campuses.
