Mohol explained that the significance of Sant Tukaram to the region is profound, as he was born and spent his early years in Lohegaon, where the airport is situated. “Sant Tukaram played a vital role in promoting Bhagwat Dharma and inspiring societal change, which resonates even today. Naming the airport in his honor reflects a widely shared sentiment across Maharashtra,” said the Pune MP.
The state government will now send the approved proposal to the central government, with further decisions expected from the central cabinet soon.
Earlier, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also expressed support for the renaming during a recent event, adding that he would discuss the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the process.
