Under the new fee structure, the cost for obtaining the number “0001” for four-wheelers will rise to ₹5 lakh, up from ₹3 lakh. For two- and three-wheelers, the fee will double to ₹1 lakh from the existing ₹50,000, as outlined in a recent notification by the transport department.

High-demand areas such as Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Raigad, Aurangabad, Nashik, and Kolhapur will see the VIP fee for “0001” increase to ₹6 lakh. If the desired number is not available in the current series and needs to be sourced from another series, the new “three-time basic fee” will be ₹15 lakh for four-wheelers and ₹3 lakh for two- and three-wheelers.

Fee Revision for Other VIP Numbers

The revised pricing means that out-of-series VIP numbers could cost up to ₹18 lakh in major cities like Mumbai and Pune, reflecting a substantial increase from the previous fee of ₹12 lakh. This was the amount paid by entities like Reliance Industries for such numbers in recent years.

Additionally, the state government has revised fees for other notable numbers. For numbers like 0009, 0099, 0999, 9999, and 0786, the fee has increased to ₹2.5 lakh from ₹1.5 lakh for four-wheelers and ₹50,000 from ₹20,000 for two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

New Fee Structure for Famous Numbers

Fees for other popular numbers have also been adjusted. For 16 specific numbers, the new fee is ₹1 lakh for four-wheelers, up from ₹70,000, and ₹25,000 for two-wheelers, increased from ₹15,000. For an additional 49 numbers, the fee has been raised to ₹70,000 for four-wheelers from ₹50,000, and to ₹15,000 for two-wheelers from ₹10,000.

For 189 other numbers such as 0011, 0022, 0088, 0200, 0202, 4242, 5656, and 7374, the revised fees are ₹25,000 for four-wheelers and ₹6,000 for two-wheelers, an increase from the previous rates.

Extended Reservation Period and Government Vehicle Exemptions

To benefit vehicle owners, the government has extended the reservation period for obtaining a vehicle with a reserved number from 30 days to six months. Furthermore, there will be reservations for VIP numbers for government vehicles, though exemptions may be granted through special orders.

This fee increase is anticipated to boost revenue for the state transport department, which reported earnings of ₹139.20 crore from registration number issuances in 1,83,794 cases during the 2017-18 financial year.
