Nine-Year-Old Shreyovi Mehta Named Runner-Up in London Wildlife Photography Contest

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, now in its 60th year, is celebrated for its high standards and global reach. Shreyovi’s photograph earned her a notable spot in the “10 Years and Under” category, showcasing the diversity and beauty of wildlife photography.

She expressed her disbelief and bliss in an Instagram post saying, “I can’t believe I am being awarded by the @nhm_wpy at Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2024 in the Under 10 Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year category. Thank you to Mom and Dad. My parents have always supported me in chasing my dreams, even when they seemed too big for a kid like me. Your love and encouragement have been my greatest strength”

Expressing her joy, Shreyovi further added, “My heart is filled with immense joy and gratitude. I am so proud to represent my Bharat on this global stage. India’s rich wildlife and heritage have been a source of endless inspiration, and I promise to keep working hard to bring more of it to you.” She also voiced her ambition to one day capture India’s national animal, the tiger, in a similarly distinguished manner.

She expressed her gratitude to parents for inspiring their daughters to pursue their dreams, emphasizing that this encouragement is invaluable. She promised to continue learning and striving for excellence, expressing excitement for future opportunities. Additionally, she thanked her photography teachers and uncle in her social media post, encouraging everyone to keep celebrating the beauty of the planet together.

The award ceremony will take place at the NHM in London on October 8, where Shreyovi will be presented with a medal. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition will open to the public on October 11 and will continue until June 29, 2025. This achievement not only highlights Shreyovi’s talent but also serves as an inspiration for young photographers worldwide.
