Nitin Gadkari Memes Flood Social Media Amid Toll Tax Hike, Leaving People in Splits

As toll taxes rise, netizens use humor to express their frustration, with memes featuring Nitin Gadkari going viral.

Social media users have turned to humor to express their frustration over the recent toll tax hike, with memes centered around India’s Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, taking over platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Be it through personal experiences, witty one-liners or famous film scenes, these memes have become a relatable form of commentary for those affected by the increase.

The toll tax hike comes after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) raised rates by 3-5% in June 2024. This increase follows the government’s ambitious road infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time. However, despite the advantages of better highways, the higher toll charges have left many citizens less than pleased. The decision to hike tolls was announced shortly after the conclusion of elections for the 18th Lok Sabha, prompting even more online humor.

An NHAI official remarked, “As the election process is over, the revision of user fee (toll) rates, which was put on hold during the elections, would become effective from June 3.” Despite the rationale behind the toll increase, it didn’t stop people from flooding social media with memes, ranging from song parodies to iconic movie dialogues, all with a touch of humor aimed at Gadkari and the toll tax issue.

One popular meme reads, “Pahele toll deke ana,” reflecting the sentiment many travelers feel when they face multiple toll booths on long journeys. The lighthearted approach to a frustrating situation has resonated with many, turning the toll tax conversation into an entertaining online moment.

While the toll hike may be unwelcome, the accompanying memes have provided some comic relief as people share their experiences in a fun, creative way.
