Pune: Case Against IPS Officer Bhagyashree Navtake to Be Transferred to CBI for Further Investigation?

Pune, 31st August 2024: A case has been registered against IPS Officer Bhagyashree Navtake at Bund Garden Police Station in Pune for alleged procedural lapses during her tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Pune, between November 2020 and November 2022.

The case is connected to the Bhaichand Hirachand Raisoni Credit Society (BHS) scam, a financial fraud involving over ₹1,000 crore, with Sunil Jhavar as the prime accused. According to sources, the case may be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, has approved this transfer.

Navtake has been accused of filing cases hastily and with some motive, allegedly disregarding proper procedures. Pune Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Nikhil Pingle, reported the incident to Bund Garden Police Station. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered against IPS Navtake. The investigation will be handed over to the CBI, and the proposal for this transfer has been approved by the Chief Minister. Soon, the case registered at Bund Garden Police Station will be handed over to the CBI for further investigation, according to sources.

Crimes related to this matter were registered at three police stations in Pune district in November 2020. Subsequently, Sunil Jhavar and Kunal Shah filed a complaint with the Director General of Police. Senior officers from the Director General of Police’s office investigated this complaint. On 19th February 2024, an inquiry report was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs by the Director General of Police, leading to the current action.
