Nana Peth, 3rd September 2024: Pune Police have arrested Somnath Gaikwad, the main accused in the murder of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Vanraj Andekar. The arrest took place on Monday night, along with the detainment of conspirators Sanjeevani Jayant Komkar, Andekar’s sister, and Prakash Komkar, his nephew.

The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Nana Peth area, where Andekar was standing with an associate at Andekar Chowk. A group of more than 12 assailants arrived on 5-6 two-wheelers and attacked Andekar. They fired five rounds at him and also attacked him with a sharp weapon, believed to be a ‘Koyta.’ Andekar succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

The murder is allegedly linked to a family and property dispute. So far, five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, including Andekar’s brother-in-law, Jayant Komkar, and his brother, Ganesh Komkar. The Komkars have been remanded to police custody until August 9.

Police have charged a total of fifteen people in the case, and further investigations are ongoing. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Nana Peth area, where the Andekar family has long held significant influence.
