Pune Metro Milestone: PM Modi to Inaugurate New Section and Launch Katraj Extension Tomorrow

Pune, 28th September 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone, inaugurate, and dedicate several major infrastructure projects in Maharashtra, collectively valued at over ₹11,200 crore. The event will take place on September 29 (Sunday) via video conferencing at around 12:30 PM.

One of the major highlights of the event is the inauguration of the Pune Metro’s District Court to Swargate section, marking the completion of Phase 1 of the Pune Metro Rail Project. The cost of constructing the underground section between District Court and Swargate is estimated at ₹1,810 crore.

Further enhancing the metro network, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension of Pune Metro Phase 1. This extension, which is entirely underground, will span 5.46 km and include three new stations: Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. The project is expected to be developed at an estimated cost of ₹2,955 crore.

In addition to the Pune Metro developments, the Prime Minister will dedicate the Bidkin Industrial Area to the nation. This large-scale project covers 7,855 acres and is part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Program under the Government of India. Located 20 km south of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra, the Bidkin Industrial Area, developed as part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, is poised to become a major economic hub for the Marathwada region. The project, set to be completed in three phases, has an overall cost of ₹6,400 crore.

The inauguration of Solapur Airport is another key project on the agenda. The revamped airport is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity, making Solapur more accessible to tourists, business travelers, and investors. The newly renovated terminal building is equipped to handle 4.1 lakh passengers annually, enhancing the region’s infrastructure.

Lastly, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Memorial of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule’s First Girls’ School at Bhidewada, honoring the legacy of the pioneering social reformer who fought for women’s education in India.
