Pune, 22nd August 2024: On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, which celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters with sisters tying rakhis on their brothers’ wrists for protection, millions of siblings travel to each other’s homes to be present for this sacred occasion and spend the day together.
In anticipation of this, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) increased its fleet by adding 130 buses to its scheduled 1,692, making a total of 1,822 buses. These changes were made on the 19th and 20th of August, during which more than 27 lakh passengers travelled on both days.
PMPML serves as a lifeline for travel within and between Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) limits. To accommodate the anticipated increase in passengers, PMPML had adjusted its staff, including drivers and conductors, to ensure streamlined service.
This led to a positive response from passengers. On 19th August, 1,822 buses were available, serving 13,18,939 passengers and generating an income of Rs 1,89,10,902. On 20th August, 1,733 buses served 14,14,499 passengers, resulting in an income of Rs 2,05,89,891.
