Pune Police to Name and Shame Harassers During Ganeshotsav, Warns Commissioner

Pune, 2nd September 2024: Whoever misbehaves or molests women will face necessary actions during Ganeshotsav. If a complaint regarding the same is registered, the police personnel have been instructed to take immediate action to take them in custody and put their picture in the main Chowk areas. Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar warned that the police will also punish the harassers.

Ganeshotsav will start on Saturday (September 7). Citizens from different parts of the country come to the Ganeshotsav in Pune to witness the glorious tradition. Crowds swell during the festival period in the central region.

But it also gets easy for these harassers to molest women in the crowd. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has ordered immediate action against the harassers. The safety of women will be given top priority. A large security force will be deployed to prevent the crime of stealing women’s jewelry, as well as the theft of mobile sets.

Women police teams, as well as Damini Pathak, will patrol the crowd. Plainclothes police teams will be patrolling the area. If found to be harassing women in the crowd, as well as doing obscene acts, the photograph of the harasser will be taken along with the name, and address and it will be printed on the main chowks by police along with taking out their Parade.

Eighteen Police Help Centers will be opened in the central part of the city during the festival. The operations of the help centres will continue round the clock till the end of the festival. Staff from the local police station, special branch, crime branch, and traffic branch will be deployed in this centre.

Rapid Action Force (RAF) will be deployed at six locations during the festival period. The RAF will be deployed during the immersion procession. RAF personnel will monitor the crowd from the tower. Crowd misbehavior, as well as suspects, will be monitored.
