Pune, 7th October 2024: In a remarkable wildlife rescue effort during the ongoing Wildlife Week celebrations, a rare Indian pangolin was safely rescued and released back into the wild by the Wildlife Rescue Team of Maval. The incident took place in Shiwali village, Maval Taluka, after the pangolin had wandered into a local household.
Nilesh Garade, the founder of the Wildlife Rescue Team in Maval, received an urgent call about the pangolin’s presence in the house. In response, the Vadgaon Forest Department was promptly informed. Forester Daya Dome and forest guard Amir Sayyed, along with Wildlife Rescue Team president Anil Andre and members Jigar Solanki, Shatrughna Rasankar, Santosh Dahibhate, Rohit Pawar, Nilesh Thakar, Adesh Mutha, and Nikhil Sane, arrived at the scene. They were supported by the village sarpanch and the local villagers.
After carefully examining the pangolin, team members Jigar Solanki and Anil Andre confirmed that the animal was in good health, with no visible injuries. Given its condition, it was decided that the pangolin would be released into a safe location away from human settlements to avoid any potential harm or stress.
Under the supervision of the Vadgaon Forest Department, the Wildlife Rescue Team successfully released the Indian pangolin back into its natural habitat. The rescue effort was lauded for its coordination and swift response, ensuring the safety of the endangered mammal without any harm.
