Pune: Residents of Vadgaonsheri Constituency Raise Concerns On Traffic, Safety, and Local Issues During Municipal Commissioner’s And Police Visit

Key Concerns Raised by TSKN:

1) ⁠No Pubs and Bars in Residential Areas: Residents urged that residential areas be protected from conversions into commercial establishments like pubs and bars to preserve peace and security.

2) Rollback Commercial Establishment Timings to 11:30 PM: There was a strong call to reinstate the pre-COVID closing times for commercial establishments to reduce late-night disturbances.

3) Women’s Safety Concerns: Increased disorder around pubs and bars has led to concerns about women’s safety, prompting calls for stricter regulations and enhanced safety measures.

4) Parking Issues: Residents highlighted the illegal parking of autorickshaws and commercial vehicles in no-parking zones, particularly around arterial roads for better airport connectivity from Nagar Road and Kalyani Nagar.

5) Traffic Rules Violations: Frequent accidents and congestion due to the lack of adherence to traffic rules were highlighted as critical issues.

6) Last-Mile Connectivity and Parking Near Metro Stations: The absence of adequate last-mile connectivity and parking facilities near metro stations was a major concern.

7) Congestion: Persistent traffic jams, especially during peak hours, were raised as a significant quality-of-life issue.

Other area residents of Viman nagar, Kharadi, Wadgaonsheri raised the below issues:

1) Water Clogging and Drainage Issues: The ongoing problem of water logging during the monsoon season and inadequate drainage systems were brought up.

2) Property Tax and Illegal Conversions: Concerns about property tax discrepancies and the illegal conversion of residential properties into commercial establishments were also discussed.

3) Public Nuisance and Obscenity: Issues related to encroachments and unruly behavior in public spaces near restaurants were raised, with demands for stricter law enforcement.

4) Stray Dog Nuisance: Specific concerns were raised by residents of Brahma Suncity regarding the increasing stray dog population in the area, which has led to safety concerns, particularly for children and the elderly. 

In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) assured the residents that a proposal for a new shelter home for stray dogs would be considered, aiming to manage the stray population more effectively and reduce the associated risks.In addition to these collective concerns, many residents took the opportunity to share individual problems directly with Mr. Sunil Tingre. The MLA, who organized this meet-up for the convenience of the residents, listened attentively to each issue and assured the citizens that he would follow up personally to ensure that their problems are addressed. During the meeting, Dr. Bhosale and Mr. Patil acknowledged the issues presented by the residents and assured them that immediate steps would be taken to address these problems. They emphasized the importance of citizen participation in finding effective solutions and urged the community to collaborate with the authorities for the betterment of the constituency. The session concluded with a pledge from the officials to not only resolve the existing issues but also to work proactively in preventing such problems in the future, thus ensuring a better quality of life for the residents.
