Pune: Sales Tax Inspector and Father Killed in Head-On Collision with Dumper Truck Near Theur

Theur, 3rd September 2024: A 36-year-old sales tax inspector and his 62-year-old father were killed, and three other family members were injured in a head-on collision with a dumper truck near Theur Phata, Pune, on Sunday (1st September) afternoon.

The accident occurred around 3:15 PM in the Ganeshwadi area of Theur, approximately 25 kilometres from Pune city. The deceased have been identified as Abhijit Suresh Pawar, a sales tax inspector, and his father, Suresh Prabhakar Pawar, a retired government officer. The family, originally from Shrigonda taluka in Ahmednagar district, was residing in Wagholi, Pune. Abhijit’s wife Pranita, mother Sulochana, and son Riyansh were injured and are receiving treatment at a Pune hospital.

According to police, Abhijit was driving a Maruti Suzuki Baleno Car when it collided head-on with the dumper truck. Abhijit died at the scene, and his father succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the hospital. The driver of the dumper truck, who had initially fled the scene, was later arrested. The driver, Sandesh Laxmanrao Pawar, has been charged with rash driving and causing death by negligence.

Abhijit Pawar has been serving at the state sales tax office in Yerawada since 2013. The family was en route to visit a relative who had recently been admitted to an engineering college in Wagholi at the time of the accident.
