Pune: Two Criminals Caught with Firearms in Pimpri, Multiple Pistols and Live Cartridges Seized

Pimpri, 2nd September 2024: Two externed criminals have been arrested by Pimpri-Chinchwad Police for illegally possessing weapons and their accessories. A total of three country-made pistols and four live cartridges, worth Rs 1,52,000, were seized. This action was part of the ongoing campaign against individuals carrying illegal firearms. Both arrests were made by the Detection Branch (DB) of Pimpri Police Station in two separate operations.

Pimpri Police successfully arrested Junaid Jamil Shaikh (18, resident of Pimpri) and Ganesh Bhunga Kamble (21, resident of Pimpri). Both criminals had been externed from the jurisdictions of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, Pune City Police Commissionerate, and Pune Rural Police Force.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Swapna Gore, on 31st August, Police Constables Rohit Waghmare and Ganesh Kakad from the Detection Branch (DB) received information from a source that a history-sheeter possessing weapons would be near the Auto Cluster in Chinchwad around 6:30 PM. The DB laid a trap and observed a person matching the description approaching the area. Police arrested 18-year-old Junaid Jamil Shaikh and seized two country-made pistols and two live cartridges from him. The total value of the seized items was Rs 1,01,000.

In another operation on the same day, Police Constable Vikas Reddy received information from a source that externed criminal Ganesh Bhunga Kamble had illegally purchased weapons from Tauphik Chand Shaikh and was terrorizing the area. Pimpri Police acted on this information, laid a trap, and arrested Kamble. From him, they confiscated one country-made pistol and two live cartridges worth Rs 1,000.

In total, weapons and accessories worth Rs 1,52,000 were seized, and two arrests were made by Pimpri Police. The investigation is ongoing.

This operation was conducted under the guidance of Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Swapna Gore, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Pimpri Division) Sachin Hire. The team was led by Senior Police Inspector Ashok Kadlag, Police Inspector (Crime) Dhananjay Kapare, and Police Inspector (Crime) Suhas Awhad. The Detection Branch (DB) team included Assistant Police Inspector Digambar Atigre, Police Sub-Inspector Shakir Jinedi, and Police Constables Barshinge, Hande, Bendarkar, Warade, Shinde, Jhambare, Abhangrao, Band, Mujawar, Reddy, Janrao, Waghmare, Kakad, Acharya, Bajbalkar, Dhawale, Kavthekar, Konde, Kolhe, and Chavan.
