Mumbai, 9th October 2024: Ratan Naval Tata, the esteemed Honorary Chairman of Tata Sons, passed away at the age of 86. He had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai due to complications related to old age.

Earlier, on October 7, media reports had surfaced claiming that Tata had been hospitalized in critical condition after a significant drop in his blood pressure. However, in a reassuring social media post, Ratan Tata had clarified his condition, stating, “I am fine and went to the hospital for a routine checkup due to old age. There is nothing to worry about.”

Despite this reassurance, the business world and the nation now mourn the loss of one of its most iconic industrialists.

Born on December 28, 1937, Ratan Tata was the great-grandson of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group. His leadership marked a significant period of growth for the Tata conglomerate. Ratan Tata served as the Chairman of Tata Sons from 1990 to 2012, and he briefly returned as interim Chairman from October 2016 to February 2017. Even after stepping down from the active leadership role, he remained involved with the group’s charitable trusts, continuing his legacy of philanthropy.

Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the Tata Group reached new heights on the global stage. Notably, he led the acquisition of iconic foreign brands, including Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford, adding them to Tata Motors’ portfolio. He also played a crucial role in the Tata Group’s acquisition of Air India, bringing the airline back under the Tata fold after decades.

Ratan Tata’s visionary leadership and focus on innovation made him one of the most respected figures in Indian business. His emphasis on ethical leadership, social responsibility, and global expansion left an indelible mark on the Tata Group and the nation.
