Vistara Issues ‘Five Essential’ Steps for Flyers Ahead of Air India Merger on November 12

As Vistara merges into Air India, passengers are advised to verify bookings, retain tickets and prepare for changes in service starting November 12, 2024.

With the merger of Vistara into Air India (AI) scheduled for November 12, 2024, Vistara has issued five critical steps for passengers to ensure a smooth transition for flights booked on or after that date. The merger marks a significant shift and passengers must be aware of key changes regarding their bookings, tickets and services.

Passengers who have booked Vistara flights will need to confirm their bookings and update their tickets. Although flight numbers will change—Vistara flight UK 711, for example, will become AI2-711—the original PNR will remain the same. However, a new Air India ticket will be issued and passengers are advised to retain both their old and new ticket details to avoid any issues during travel.

While the Air India fleet undergoes upgrades, the Tatas have decided to retain the “Vistara experience” for travelers, especially in terms of the aircraft and crew, until mid-2025. Passengers booked on Vistara flights will continue to enjoy the same planes and services until the revamp of Air India’s narrow-body fleet is complete. However, some services, such as lounge access and other exclusive offerings purchased with Vistara, may no longer be valid if Air India operates the flight. In such cases, Vistara will process refunds for these additional services.

For a seamless travel experience, passengers are encouraged to verify their booking status via the Air India website or mobile app using their PNR number and last name. This step will help them stay informed of any changes in schedule, flight status, or aircraft adjustments. Additionally, on the day of travel, customers should check in at Air India counters.

For those who purchased excess baggage with their Vistara bookings, the baggage allowances will transfer to the new Air India flight. To avoid complications at the airport, passengers should keep receipts or documentation for any excess baggage purchases.

If customers wish to reschedule or cancel their flights, policies will vary depending on whether Vistara or Air India operates the flight. Vistara encourages travelers to contact the appropriate customer care team for any assistance.

In the weeks following the merger, flight timings should remain consistent. If any changes occur, passengers will be notified via email or SMS by Air India’s customer service team.
