Wagholi, 22nd August 2024: A 56-year-old resident, Prakash Gurnani, was violently assaulted by a security guard and his brother over a disagreement related to a society entrance in Wagholi. The incident occurred on August 17, resulting in Gurnani sustaining a severe head injury that required seven stitches. He was promptly admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

The Lonikand police have since registered a case against the accused individuals, identified as Anand, a bouncer, and his brother Rahul. The charges against them fall under sections 115, 118(1), 352, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Gurnani, a resident of Marvel Ganga Fria Society, has been using the gate of the neighboring Kamal Bagh Society for access. To facilitate smoother passage, he had placed Kamal Bagh Society’s parking stickers on his vehicles. The trouble began on August 15, when Gurnani, preparing to leave for a business trip, was prevented from exiting by a security guard at the Kamal Bagh gate. An argument ensued between Gurnani and the guard, identified as Anand. Following the altercation, Gurnani reported the incident to Kamal Bagh society’s office-bearer, Datta Jadhav.

Two days later, on August 17, Gurnani was once again confronted at the gate. This time, the security guard forcibly seized his car keys. When Gurnani demanded the return of his keys and questioned the guard’s behavior, Anand allegedly became violent, attacking Gurnani and punching him. The situation escalated when Anand called his brother Rahul to the scene, who then struck Gurnani on the head with a wooden stick, causing serious injuries.

Recounting the ordeal, Gurnani stated, “They both attacked me without provocation. Anand hit me with a stick, leading to significant injuries. I immediately called my society manager, Gajanan Ghangao, who alerted my wife and brother-in-law. They arrived quickly and took me to the hospital.”

The Lonikand police have launched an investigation into the incident. The accused are facing charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, reflecting the severity of the assault.
