Zika Virus Cases Surge in Pune, Reaching 103 Confirmed Infections

Kharadi (13 cases), Ghole Rasta and Pashan (9 cases each), Sukhsagarnagar and Mundhwa (7 cases each), Wanwadi (5 cases), Kalas (4 cases), Koregaon Park and Ambegaon Budruk (3 cases each), Lohgaon (2 cases), and Vishrambagwara and Dhankawadi (1 case each).

Three new cases have been detected in Erandwane Regional Office, involving a 19-year-old woman and two men aged 59 and 69, all exhibiting fever symptoms. These patients’ blood samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing.

Unfortunately, five Zika patients have succumbed to the virus in Pune, all of whom were senior citizens with pre-existing co-morbidities. The deceased patients include a 72-year-old man from Kharadi, a 95-year-old woman from Pashan, a 78-year-old man from Baner, a 68-year-old man from Kothrud, and a 76-year-old man from Karvenagar.

Pune Municipal Corporation and health authorities are working to contain the outbreak, emphasizing the importance of mosquito control measures and public awareness. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to prevent mosquito bites, the primary mode of Zika virus transmission.
